350 jobs could be cut from St. Louis school district
From The St. Louis Post-Dispatch: St. Louis Public Schools leaders are looking to eliminate as many as 350 jobs as part of a $53 million reduction in next year's budget — cuts so deep they would leave no department untouched. If approved by the board, the reductions would trim nearly 10 percent of the district's 3,800 full-time employees and almost $26 million in salaries. Superintendent Kelvin Adams says the district estimates it will eliminate 70 teachers, 70 aides, 50 central office workers and 100 "core staff" such as secretaries, nurses and social workers in the schools. In addition, the district will cut 60 assistant principals, principals and support workers in the 14 schools the board has approved to close this summer.
