Cats welcome in some MIT housing

School is at forefront of colleges that allow some pets

TheMassachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge allows cats in four of its 11 undergraduate residence halls, a rare amenity that school officials say they instituted as a compromise while cracking down on students who harbor a menagerie of other animals.
