Lafayette, La., Montessori school won’t face action from state social services

State agency drops argument that school should be regulated as a day-care facility
Sept. 27, 2010

From The Baton Rouge Advocate: The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is conceding that Truman Montessori in Lafayette is in fact a public preschool and not an unlicensed day-care facility, as the agency alleged last month when it ordered the school to cease operations. The Lafayette Parish School System sought a temporary restraining order to prevent the state from closing the school, arguing that Truman Montessori is a public school and not subject to day-care licensing laws. A DCFS attorney now says the agency has no plans to take any action against Truman.
