Voters approved plans in 2007, but slow economy put project on hold
From The Charlotte Observer: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) School Districtis ready to launch construction on a new school in Huntersville that will relieve crowding at Torrence Creek Elementary in 2013-14. Torrence Creek has more than 1,200 students in a school built for about 800. It has used mobile classrooms to extend its capacity since it opened in 2005. Voters approved the new school as part of a 2007 school bond package, but the recession stalled construction of many projects. The last new schools were opened in August 2010.
