School transportation cuts raise concerns for some parents in Gary, Ind.

Budget cuts mean many more student must walk to school
Aug. 27, 2012

From The Gary Post-Tribune: Some parents in Gary, Ind., are unhappy with the school district's new “walk zone” policy, which eliminates bus transportation for children who live one mile or less from their schools. At the middle and high school level, students must do without bus rides if they live two miles or less from the school. Students who don’t live in a walk zone and special-needs students are provided bus transportation.
