Police have identified "person of interest" in connection with death threats that led to campus closing

St. Xavier University in Chicago has decided it's safe to call students back to school today. Authorities are focusing on a person of interest in connection with death threats that led to a six-day campus shutdown. Meanwhile, officials at South Suburban College have closed their main campus in South Holland, Ill., after receiving a threat of violence on campus. School officials searched the building "and are continuing to investigate the threat with the help of local and federal authorities," according to the college's Web site.

Earlier: Students were expected to return to classes Tuesday at Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Mich., after a two-day interruption of campus activities due to threats of violence found in three different buildings at the school. Officials said no incidents were reported Monday and a campuswide safety alert was put into place and all scheduled classes and activities canceled. About 18,000 students attend Oakland University, and some said they have mixed feelings about returning to campus.

St. Xavier University on the southwest side of Chicago has closed the campus indefinitely because of threats to safety. On Thursday, university officials found the second threat in a week scrawled on the same bathroom stall in a freshman coed residence hall. The latest threat read "Be prepared to die on 4/14." Officials decided on Friday to close the school, and the campus was cleared by Saturday. The university has put up about 10 students in a hotel and provided bus fare to others who needed it to get home.

SIDEBAR: Two high schools and two elementary schools in the vicinity of St. Xavier will be closed Monday as a security precaution. Brother Rice High School, Mother MacAuley Liberal Arts High School, Evergreen Park Southwest Elementary and Queen of Martyrs Elementary.

ALSO: Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Mich., canceled has classes and activities today after graffiti messages threatening a campus attack were found scrawled in three men's restrooms. The campus is expected to reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday. The threats were found Saturday in three buildings--O'Dowd Hall, the Oakland Center and Kresge Library. The buildings form a triangle in the heart of the West campus.
