Proposal calls for 6 schools to close in Memphis

Newly created unified city-county board looks to shutter underutilized campuses
Nov. 27, 2012

From The Memphis Commercial Appeal: The unified Memphis-Shelby County (Tenn.) school board will consider a proposal to close six schools in the northwest and southwest regions of Memphis. The proposal is a considerably scaled down version of the Transition Planning Commission's recommendation to close 21 schools to raise utilization rates and save the district $20 million a year. The proposal calls for closing Coro Lake, White's Chapel, Orleans, Norris and Gordon elementary schools, as well as Humes Middle School.
