The Marshall (Minn.) district is looking to install solar panels at five school buildings.

The panels are expected to save the district more than $750,000 in electrical costs over the next 30 years, reports the Marshall Independent

The 248-kilowatt solar installation is estimated to cost about $585,000. If the state of Minnesota approves a grant to the district, it would cover about 85% of the cost, and the district would pay about $87,792.

The solar arrays would be installed at Marshall High School, Marshall Middle School, Southview Elementary, Park Side Elementary, and the planned Career and Technical Education Center.

Each solar site would generate 49.6 kilowatts of electricity.

If the grant is approved, installation of the solar panels could begin around September or October.
