$4.5 million in Covid relief funds will pay for HVAC upgrades in Stamford (Conn.) school district
The Stamford (Conn.) school district is upgrading HVAC systems at two of its schools.
Covid relief funding will help the district carry out $2.5 million in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning improvements at Scofield Magnet Middle School. A similar project at Stillmeadow Elementary School will benefit from $2 million in federal aid, reports The Stamford Advocate.
District officials were hoping for funding to carry out more HVAC upgrades; it had six projects, but the Stamford Board of Finance approved allocations only for Scofield and Stillmeadow.
Projects not funded include air quality improvements at Stark Elementary School, Davenport Ridge Elementary School and Rippowam Middle School, totaling $5 million. Another project, worth $1.5 million, would have enabled facilities managers to operate cooling and heating systems at all schools from one screen.
