Mold discovery disrupts classes at 2 schools in the Lumberton Township (New Jersey) district
Discovery of mold at two schools in the Lumberton Township (New Jersey) district has forced middle school students to switch to remote learning and elementary students to relocate to a different facility.
NBC Philadelphia reports that mold was discovered in 10 rooms in Bobby's Run School and 16 rooms in Lumberton Middle School in Lumberton. Bobby's Run school has students in grades two through five.
Superintendent Colleen Murray says after a teacher noticed a moldy smell at the start of the school year, the district brought in professionals who detected the presence of mold.
The district worked with state and county education and health officials to devise a plan to keep kids leaning while remediation efforts are underway.
Students attending Bobby's Run will have their classes relocated to areas of Lumberton Middle School that are not affected, and Lumberton Middle School students will switch to remote learning beginning Thursday.
Officials do not yet know when the cleanup will be finished. Murray said middle school students should plan for the possibility of two weeks of remote learning.
