A South Carolina school district may have to spend nearly $400 million over the next decade to keep pace with growth projections, the Fort Mill Times reported. The Fort Mill district, which is situated in the suburbs of Charlotte, N.C., expects most of that growth to occur at the middle school level.
The cost to build five new schools and make the needed improvements to existing facilities is projected to cost $398.5 million. Since the district’s current funding source – impact fees collected from new homes – will not cover the expense, voters would likely be asked to approve a bond measure.
