Wisconsin district pays $3.6 million for farmland adjacent to its high school

Kaukauna Area district documents indicate the 144-acre property could be the site of a new school.

The Kaukauna (Wis.) school board has approved the purchase of 144 acres of farmland in the town of Buchanan for $3.6 million

The Appleton Post-Crescent reports that the board unanimously approved the purchase after no discussion.

The district doesn't have specific plans on how it will use the property, which is adjacent to Kaukauna High School. But a copy of the offer letter available on the board's online document platform says the property could be used to build a new school.

During a special meeting before the regular meeting, one district resident addressed the board saying he disapproved of the purchase. He raised concerns about the noise from Wisconsin International Raceway, which he said already disrupts events at the high school.
