Oklahoma City district is shutting down an elementary school because of structural problems

Shidler Elementary will not reopen, and its students will be relocated to Adelaide Lee Elementary.
June 6, 2023

The Oklahoma City school board has voted to permanently shut down one of its elementary schools because of structural problems.

KOCO-TV reports that Shidler Elementary will not reopen and its students will move to Adelaide Lee Elementary

The structural problems had already prompted the district to move most of the students away from the Shidler campus. In the most recent semester, only pre-K classes were held inside the building.

District officials said that they had planned to close the Shidler campus in the coming years. Funding from a 2022 bond issue will pay for a new elementary on the Adelaide Lee campus that would serve students now attending Adelaide Lee and Shidler. The school is scheduled to open in 2026-27.
