Immaculate Conception High School in Lodi, New Jersey, closes after 108 years

The all-girls Catholic school was plagued by low enrollment and financial difficulties.

Immaculate Conception High School, an all-girls Catholic School in Lodi, New Jersey, has shut down after 108 years.

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that the closing has saddened scores of alumni, teachers, displaced students and their families. Several hundred attended a recent farewell vigil that offered a final opportunity to tour classrooms, browse unclaimed trophies and walk hallways lined with messages touting the strength of women.

The high school shut its doors after citing enrollment losses and other financial challenges.

School officials have been assisting in placing the once-incoming freshmen and other displaced students with other schools,
