Administrators in the Green Bay (Wisconsin) Area School District are recommending that two more elementary schools be closed after this academic year.
WTAQ-Radio reports that the closings would be the district's latest steps to address shrinking enrollment and projected budget deficits
The board already has voted to close Wequiock Elementary at the end of this school year. Now, two more consolidations are being considered:
- Merging Tank Elementary School with Lincoln Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year.
- Merging Keller Elementary School with Kennedy Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year.
One of the previous discussion topics was the possible closing of West High, but the recommendation now is to include West in a boundary study examining school attendance areas.
District leadership will also present the board with an initial list of referendum projects, in anticipation of a ballot question in the spring.
“Included in the list is a new westside elementary school for the purpose of consolidating MacArthur, Keller and Kennedy Elementary Schools,” the letter states.
