Ocean View (California) board decides to close one of its middle schools
The Ocean View (California) school board has voted to close one of its middle schools, but opted not to close any elementary campuses.
The Orange County Register reports that closing Spring View Middle School in Huntington Beach will create about $2.9 million in savings for the district over three years. The district plans to move its administrative offices to the site.
The three elementary schools being considered for closure, consolidation or repurposing — Circle View, Golden View and Village View elementary schools — will remain open, the board decided.
The board's decisions came in response to a task force's recommendations for addressing enrollment declines.
The Ocean View district, which serves parts of Huntington Beach, Westminster, Fountain Valley and Midway City, has more than 6,800 students across 15 schools.
The district's student head count has dropped by about 2,600 since 2013, and it closed Sun View Elementary in Huntington Beach in 2018.
