KTBS-TV reports that the school board is considering a proposal to shutter Queensborough Elementary, Blanchard Elementary and Eighty-First Street ECE.
The three schools would merge with others in the area. The district says the mergers would provide students greater opportunities for more enrichment, clubs, sports and other activities.
The district projects the closures would reduce annual expenditures by between $750,000 and $1 million.
The proposal calls for Queensborough Elementary to close at the end of this school year. Students from Queensborough would be moved to J.S. Clark Academy.
Blanchard Elementary would close at the end of 2025-2026. Students would be consolidated with Donnie Bickham Middle School, making the school a preK-8 campus. The Eighty-First Street ECE also would close at the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Students would relocate to Atkins Elementary.
