Meijer, a grocery and general merchandise store chain based in Grand Rapids, Mich., opened the supercenter on Thursday, eight years after the Detroit district closed Redford High School.
The school opened in 1921 and at one time had as many as 4,100 students. It was one of many Detroit public schools closed in 2007 as the system struggled with financial woes and steadily plummeting enrollment numbers.
