Williamsport (Pa.) board votes to close Stevens Primary School

May 19, 2022
The decision was made after an architectural feasibility study determined that it would cost about $20 million to bring the school up to code.

The Williamsport (Pa.) school board has voted to close one of the oldest buildings in the district -- Stevens Primary School

The campus will be permanently closed on June 30, reports Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The school has about 250 students in kindergarten through third grade and about 34 professional and support staff.

The district is unsure what it will do with the building after it closes.

After a feasibility study, the district determined that bringing the building up to code would cost about $20 million. Officials decided it would be more cost effective to close the school and relocate students to other campuses.

The district will redraw attendance boundaries in order to be equitable in determining where to transfer students,
