Principal at Uvalde, Texas, school is reinstated
Mandy Gutierrez has been reinstated to her position as principal of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
ABC News reports that the reinstatement came after Gutierrez responded to criticisms of her actions during the May shooting attack at the school that killed 19 students and two teachers.
A special investigative committee of the Texas House of Representatives had found said that Gutierrez and an assistant knew that a lock to the classroom where the shootings occurred wasn't working and did not take steps to have it repaired. The lengthy report described in detail the failures of the Uvalde district and law enforcement agencies in responding to the shooting attack.
Uvalde Superintendent Hal Harrell thanked Gutierrez for submitting responses to the House committee.
"As a result of our review, you will be allowed to return to work," Harrell told the principal in a letter.
The district's police chief, Pete Arredondo, also has been placed on administrative leave.
