Lafayette Charter School, a preK-8 charter school in Lafayette, Minn., will not re-open for the coming school year.

The school cited inadequate staffing and low financial support as the main reason for closing, reports St. Peter Herald

The school district sent a letter to parents July 14.

“After identifying the important and mandatory responsibilities needed to support the school for the coming year, and exploring every avenue within the committed time frame, the board has been forced to recognize that the school does not have the necessary staff or financial resources to continue," the letter said.

The school district is assisting families to find new schools for their children.

The school has operated since 1999.
