Columbus, Ohio, teachers end three-day strike
The Columbus (Ohio) teachers union and the district have reached a conceptual agreement ending a three-day strike.
Students are scheduled to return to classrooms Monday, reports CNN.
Teachers were seeking 8% pay raises, as well as smaller class sizes and commitments from the district to improve heating and air conditioning in dilapidated school buildings. The district had offered 3% pay bumps and balked at including language on school improvements in the union contract.
The strike has displaced students from classrooms and has moved them to remote learning for the first few days of class, which started on Wednesday and were led by substitute teachers. The district said students will remain online for the remainder of the week to provide teachers with planning days to prepare for school.
