The Monroe County (Ind.) school district has paid $2.9 million for a building in Monroe that houses the local newspaper.

The district intends on using The Herald-Times building as a family welcome center, and community meeting and building services space, reports Indiana Public Media

The three-story limestone building is near the district's administrative building, technology center, transportation lot and Bloomington High School South.

The Herald-Times has occupied the 68,000-square-foot site since 1961. It plans to relocate at a later date.
