Fayette County (Ky.) district considers alternative driving services to address bus driver shortage

Nov. 30, 2021
The National Association of Pupil Transportation Collaborative would provide van service for students on some routes that serve smaller groups of riders.

The Fayette County (Ky.) district is considering whether to spend $440,000 with an outside transportation vendor to address its bus driver shortage.

WTVQ Channel 36 News reports that under the proposal, the district would work with the National Association of Pupil Transportation Collaborative to provide van service for students on routes that serve smaller groups of riders.

All drivers would be required to go through the same background check process as district employees and contractors.

If approved by the board, the pilot program would begin with a few routes in January, using up to 10 vans, according to the district.

The board is expected to vote on the proposal at a meeting in December.
