Students steer school bus in Maine to safety after driver becomes incapacitated
Students aboard a school bus veering out of control in Topsham, Maine, steered the vehicle to safety after the driver became incapacitated.
The Topsham Police Department said the students were able to stop the bus from going toward a river along Route 201, reports WGME-TV.
No students were injured, but the driver, 77, died at an area hospital.
Police say two students noticed the bus was veering off the road and took control of the steering wheel. They guided the bus to the side of the road while hitting the brakes.
A third student began administering first aid to the driver while others called 911 and flagged down help.
