Residence hall under construction at aviation-themed university in Florida
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is constructing a seven-story 452-bed residence hall on its Daytona Beach, Fla,, campus.
The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that the facility will have 235,298 square feet of space—33,860 of that will be dedicated to office and business space on the first floor. The building is expected to open in September 2021.
The new student housing will bring Embry-Riddle’s residence hall capacity on the Daytona campus to 3,452 beds.
The demand is there, says Parker Mynchenberg, a professional engineer and landscape architect representing the university at a May 28 Daytona Beach Planning Board hearing.
“There were two previous dorms that are fully occupied and I understand this one, when they get it built, will probably be occupied,” Mynchenberg says. “Embry-Riddle’s doing really well and, just forecasting something, adjacent to this dorm is the existing pool and athletic annex and they’ve got me working on a real exciting plan for a new fitness center and a new, kind of state-of-the-art pool next to it.”
