Housing for first-year students is under construction at the University of Georgia
The University of Georgia has begun construction of a residence hall for first-year students.
What Now Atlanta reports that the 525-bed facility will be built on the site of the former Bolton Dining Hall on the Athens, Ga., campus. The site has been a gravel parking lot since the dining hall was razed.
The Office of University Architects for Facilities Planning says the 120,500-square-foot project has a budget of $49,870,000 and is planned to be constructed and ready for students in fall 2022.
In documents presented in November 2020 to the Board of Regents, university officials stated the project will allow for incremental growth in its first-year class, while also providing beds to use as swing space as the university continues to renovate or replace other residence halls on campus
The architectural team for the project is Beck/RAMSA, and the contractor isTurner Construction.
