North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro is looking to start construction this fall on a five-story residence hall.
The Greensboro News & Record reports that the university's goal is to have the $60 million facility built by fall 2025.
Robert Pompey, the university’s vice chancellor for business and finance, says the hall would be the first new student housing built at N.C. A&T in the 16 years he’s been with the university.
Students have held demonstrations in recent years to call for additional student housing.
The university announced plans for the “Bluford Street Residence Hall” in 2018 and has had at least a couple projected start dates for construction come and go.
Pompey said the project has been delayed because the university decided to buy surrounding apartment complexes and turn them into student housing first as a quicker way to add beds amid increasing student enrollment.
