The university says it has reached an agreement with the city of Newport that will allow construction of the oceanside facility. As part of the agreement, Salve will add sidewalks near the residence hall on Shepard Avenue to promote pedestrian safety. The university also has identified a property on Victoria Avenue for potential redevelopment as an athletic field.
The new residence hall is part of Salve’s strategic plan to provide more student housing on campus and relieve some of the housing shortage in downtown Newport.
Construction of the new building is scheduled to begin in spring 2025; it is expected to be ready for students to move in by fall 2026.
