The university says the $85 million building will have six to seven stories and in addition to living spaces for students will provide classroom space, study lounges, a community kitchen and staff offices.
To construct the new building, Portland State will deconstruct two university housing buildings--Blackstone and Montgomery--that fall short of providing optimal living conditions for students.
Careful deconstruction of Blackstone and Montgomery is scheduled to start late in 2026. Construction of the new residence hall that will follow. During deconstruction, the university will recycle as many materials from the old buildings as possible.
The university says the new residence hall will be ready for students in fall 2028.
