216-bed residence hall planned at Charleston Southern University

The 52,000-square-foot facility is set to open on the Charleston, South Carolina, campus in 2026.

Charleston Southern University in Charleston, South Carolina, is set to break ground this summer on a 216-bed residence hall.

The university says the three-story suite-style residence hall will mirror Barbara C. Mead Hall, built in 2019. Construction is scheduled for completion by August 2026.

Campus housing demand has increased each year since Mead Hall opened, and the university has used the Wingate Hotel on its campus for overflow housing—filling it for the last three years.

The 52,000-square-foot building will stand beside Mead Hall; a courtyard will connect the  two residences.

The newest residence hall will have:

  • Suite-style accommodations, with two furnished double-occupancy bedrooms, one bathroom, and a common living area;
  • Group study space available on each floor, and private study rooms on the third floor;
  • A full kitchen on the third floor for general or reserved use;
  • A grab-and-go retail location on the first floor;
  • A fitness center on the second floor with cardio and cable equipment.
