The Oak Lawn (Illinois) Community High School Board has approved construction plans for a $40 million field house.

The one-school district in Chicago's southwest suburbs says the upgraded facility at Oak Lawn Community High School will provide "a top-tier space for sports, fitness classes, and school-wide events."

Construction is set to begin in spring 2025; completion is expected about 18 months later. The field house will enhance high school athletics programs and serve as a multipurpose venue to boost student learning and provide space for both school and local events.

The field house will have modern indoor athletic facilities, event spaces, and upgraded amenities that will benefit all who use the facility, from student athletes to the wider community.

The new building has been designed with sustainability and long-term utility in mind, the district says.

Oak Lawn Community High School has about 1,800 students.
