Montgomery County (Maryland) district loses nearly $40 million in renovation funds because of calculation error
A calculation error has cost the Montgomery County (Maryland) district nearly $40 million in state funding for the renovation of a high school.
WTOP Radio reports that Superintendent Thomas Taylor has informed the school board that the error in a submission for state aid has led to the loss of $39.3 million in funding for renovations to Charles W. Woodward High School in Rockville.
The superintendent says the district is working with the Interagency Commission and the Maryland Stadium Authority to determine whether a portion of that $39.3 million can still be awarded, WUSA-TV reports.
Taylor is recommending that funds be shifted from other projects to complete the work. He has identified several projects that funding can be pulled from in order to make up for state aid loss. The projects:
- $7 million from the Building Modifications for Program Improvements Project
- $5 million from the William Tyler Page Elementary School addition
- $3.4 million from the Westbrook Elementary School addition
- $1.3 million from the Takoma Park Middle School addition
- $1 million from the Parkland Middle School addition
“I recommend that we transfer $17.7 million in unexpended appropriations from these projects,” said Taylor.
