Illinois district honored for embracing sustainability in its food service operations

Niles Township High School District 219 receives the Illinois Governor's Sustainability Award

Niles Township (Ill.) High School District 219 has received the Illinois Governor's Sustainability Award for establishing environmentally sustainable practices in its cafeterias. The Lincolnwood Review reports that the district was recognized for carrying out a sustainable food service policy that has prompted schools to install energy-efficient dishwashers, purchase reusable service ware, and begin separate measuring of kitchen energy, water and natural gas to refine consumption monitoring in the kitchen.
