Natomas (Calif.) district prepares to open green campus

A green roof is one of many energy-saving features at the Natoma (Calif.) Unified School District's H. Allen Hight Learning Center in Sacramento, which will welcome about 500 elementary and middle school students when it opens its doors in August. The green roof covers one of three buildings on the campus--a central library and administration building that sits between an elementary and a middle school. The Collaborative for High Performing Schools says the Hight campus will become a demonstration site where other schools can learn about green construction practices. Other sustainable features: The school's cabinetry is made from recycled wood; tackable wall panels are made from recycled paper; and paint, flooring and ceiling materials do not emit toxins common in most building supplies.To read The Sacramento Bee article, click here.
