Charlottesville, Va., school opens "Little Green" building
The Charlottesville (Va.) Waldorf School has opened an environmentally friendly building on 14 acres that it calling “Little Green.” The facility can accommodate eight classes of up to 24 students each. A reflective roof deflects heat, floors are made from locally harvested wood and toxin-free paint was used. Little Green is the first step in the Charlottesville Waldorf Foundation’s “Greenest School” project. The ultimate goal is to build “Big Green,” a larger facility that will be built behind Little Green. Little Green has already received LEED certification.
