The Center for Science, Education and Technology (SET) at Cabrini College, Philadelphia, is an $18.5 million, 61,000-square-foot facility with classrooms and research facilities.
The building triples the college's existing laboratory space and adds advanced equipment to chemistry, biology and physical-sciences laboratories. In addition to science facilities, SET houses new equipment for information technology students and will be home to the college's pilot program for teachers on incorporating science into elementary education curricula.
The biology labs feature a BD Biosciences FACSCalibur flow cytometer and a LICOR automated DNA sequencer. Among the scientific equipment in SET are two cell culture suites that house five biosafety cabinets and six inverted microscopes equipped with digital cameras, monitors and fluorescence capability.
“Science and information technology are two of the fastest-growing fields,” says Antoinette Iadarola, president. “As these areas continue to expand, Cabrini students will be familiar with the latest technology, better preparing them for careers or post-graduate work in science, science education and information technology.”
