The architect worked with educators to create an adaptable and interactive setting for this 94,000-square-foot addition to Washington State University, Pullman.
The facility incorporates movable furnishings and seating areas, as well as private rooms for group work. It includes 20 new classrooms with Internet access at every seat. In addition, it features a computer technology lab with a wireless computer data network and a cyber cafe with Internet access.
The building design includes several sustainable-design strategies, including sensors that shut down lights in unoccupied spaces, insulated window glass, interior and exterior sunshades, and programmable heating, cooling and lighting.
A 285-stall parking structure was built into the side of the sloped land on which the building was developed so it would not lessen the facility's visual appeal.
The architect for this project is Yost Grube Hall Architecture (Portland, Ore.).
