July 1, 2002

The city of Revere, Mass., has begun an $83.5 million school building construction program, which will include four new buildings for five schools. The entire program is expected to take five years to complete.

The combined Whalen Elementary School and Middle School is a three-story, 193,600-square-foot structure built for a student population of 1,400. The Rumney Marsch School, a new middle school for 564 students, is more than 91,600 square feet.

In phase II of the program, a new Paul Revere School will replace the existing building with a 57,600-square foot facility for 400 students. A new 57,785-square-foot McKinley Elementary School is expected to accommodate 402 students. It will replace the existing school.

Scope of the work includes design and reviews for cost, completeness and constructability, value engineering, schedule and budget development, cashflow reporting, construction planning, bid process oversight and construction site management.

Architect for the project is RF Walsh (Boston).
