Albuquerque school district's plan to arm security guards runs into opposition

School police in Albuquerque, N.M., may have a hard fight to add stun guns and firearms to their arsenal. Board member Matthew Archuleta says he's opposed to giving the school police additional firepower. Superintendent Brad Allison supports the idea of giving his police more weapons. Allison says arming school police would prevent, not spawn, more violence in schools. Under his proposal, shotguns would be kept in officers' patrol cars. The biggest need for increased weapons, he says, has been seen at night, when officers must respond to burglary calls on school grounds.
