Kentucky school closes "chapel" while officials determine how it should be used

Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Ky., has temporarily closed its controversial chapel while officials try to establish rules for how the room should be used. School officials call the chapel a "quiet room" that students could use for relaxing in addition to prayer. Board members are not necessarily against the room but want to make sure rules were established for how it should be used.

School officials describe the privately funded chapel as a "quiet room" and say it gives students a place to pray, read or just sit quietly and relax. Opponents say the room creates a religious atmosphere and is utterly unconstitutional.
