The law, which opponents consider an over-reach, is part of first lady Michelle Obama's anti-childhood obesity effort.
Georgia’s Board of Education has proposed up to 30 exemption days per school to allow fundraisers to sell food, including sweet treats, no longer allowed in schools under a federal law passed in 2010. The law, which opponents consider an over-reach, is part of first lady Michelle Obama's anti-childhood obesity effort.
Candy sales and similar campaigns have raised as much as $10,000 in some years. While schools are considering other alternatives, such as T-shirt sales, many are reluctant to walk away from the much-needed funds, according to the Daily Reporter.
