New elementary building in Venice (Illinois) district will replace facility that had been condemned.
The Venice (Illinois) school district has received $26 million in emergency state funding to build a new elementary campus.
The Alton Telegraph reports that students in the one-school elementary district have been unable to attend classes at Venice Elementary School since September 2020, when the building was condemned because of structural problems.
For the 2020-21 school year, students received instruction remotely; since 2021-22, Venice Elementary has been operating in a temporary site at a former military base in Granite City.
The state's Capital Development Board awarded the district $26 million last year for construction of a new campus in Venice on the site of the condemned facility, which has been razed.
Construction is expected to begin next year and is scheduled to be completed in 2025. The architect is FGM Architects.
