Columbus State Community College is a step closer to breaking ground on a 80,000-square-foot academic building in downtown Columbus, Ohio.

WCMH-TV reports that the city's Downtown Commission has approved the college’s collaboration with OhioHealth to construct a health care education building at Cleveland Avenue and East Spring Street.

The three-story building will be named the OhioHealth Center of Health Sciences and is set to break ground this fall.

The center will provide upgraded labs, simulation spaces, classrooms and other student success amenities. The college expects the facility to open by the start of the 2027-28 academic year.

The new building is one part of the college’s $120 million OhioHealth partnership, which aims to increase the number of professionals in five key fields: nursing, surgical technology, medical imaging, respiratory therapy and sterile processing.
