Construction begins on new science building for California middle school

The $11.4 million project at Hart Middle School in the Pleasanton Unified district will add 6 classrooms fully outfitted with lab equipment.

The Pleasanton (Calif.) Unified School District has broken ground on the first phase of a new science building at Hart Middle School in Pleasanton.

Pleasanton Weekly reports that the school board has approved a $1,941,747 contract with Silicon Valley Paving Inc. for the project's first phase. The first phase will include a new parking lot and an additional drop-off lane.

Subsequent phases of the $11.4 million project will include construction of a science building courtyard, remodeling of existing science labs into general education classrooms and removal of four portable buildings from the site.

When the project is finished, the campus will have six new classrooms equipped with a full laboratory setup for multiple science disciplines.
