Montgomery (Ala.) district embarks on $150 million capital improvement plan

The plan calls for consolidating Sidney Lanier High and G.W. Carver high schools as well as consolidating Wilson and Blount elementary schools.

The Montgomery (Ala.) district is planning to consolidate two of its high schools--Sidney Lanier and G.W. Carver.

A $150 million capital improvement plan will pay for renovation of Sidney Lanier; once that is complete, student from G.W. Carver will move to the Sidney Lanier campus, The Montgomery Advertiser reports. 

The district also plans to consolidate Wilson and Blount elementary schools.

Baldwin Arts and Academic Magnet students will be moved to the renovated Wilson Elementary Building.

Other planned facility upgrades:

Robert E. Lee High School will be rebuilt and renamed.

Elementary schools will be equipped with gymnasiums. 

Volkert & Associates, Inc. is construction manager for the project.
