Arlington (Va.) district looks at building alternative high school at Amazon's planned HQ2 site in Arlington
The Arlington (Va.) district is looking to build a permanent home for an alternative high school in Amazon's planned office in Arlington.
Amazon's development plan for the site known as PenPlace includes a spiral-shaped 'Helix' building alongside three new office towers, reports WJLA News.
The district said Amazon has offered to support the building of a permanent home for Arlington Community High School as part of its development.
The plans call for Amazon providing 26,500 square feet of space for the school in one of its HQ2 office buildings. Amazon would construct the school and provide a rent-free lease to the county for a minimum of 30 years.
Arlington Community High School has been accredited as an alternative high school since 2012 and now is housed in a former medical clinic building.
Pending approval from Arlington County, Amazon plans to start construction at the PenPlace site later this year. The first office building at PenPlace would open in 2025.
