The school board approved $38.87 million in contracts that will pay much of the construction costs for the two K-4 facilities in Waverly. They will replace the existing Margeretta Carey, Southeast and West Cedar elementaries, reports The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
The new elementaries had estimated price tags of $15.1 million to $17.1 million. Since then, supply chain issues have caused prices for materials to increase so that a combined estimate for the new elementary buildings is $44.33 million.
The district says it will use other sources of funding to cover the higher costs.
Officials expect the schools to be open in 2023.
