The University of New England is relocating its College of Osteopathic Medicine from Biddeford, Maine, to Portland.
The university will construct the $93 million Alfond Center for Health Sciences on its Portland campus, reports The Portland Press Herald.
The 100,000-square-foot building will house the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The university says relocating the college is enabling it to admit more students and eventually consolidate all health programs on one campus.
The space the College of Osteopathic Medicine occupied on the Biddeford campus will be used to expand undergraduate and graduate programs in marine sciences, business and entrepreneurship, and criminology.
The university still needs to get zoning approval for the project from the city of Portland.
The schedule calls for a groundbreaking to take place late this summer or fall.
A $5 million allocation from the federal omnibus spending bill will be combined with a $30 million gift from the Harold Alfond Foundation to help pay relocation and construction costs.
