The schools that would be replaced are Alice Gustafson, J.B. Nelson, H.C. Storm and Louise White elementary schools, reports The Daily Herald.
According to the district, Alice Gustafson is the only school that would be more costly to replace than renovate. Renovating all four schools would cost about $169.2 million; rebuilding them would cost about $135.3 million.
The existing facilities are lacking accessibility, secure entrances, and collaborative work environments.
The district is looking at three funding options for construction:
Option A would be substantially cheaper than the two other options but would call for only minor improvements to facilities.
Option B would see only H.C. Storm and Louise White Elementary replaced.
Option C would see all four schools replaced. It is the only option that would increase taxes.
The school board is expected to decide in July on how to proceed.
